Avalide, a fixed-dose antihypertensive combination medication, contains two active ingredients: Hydrochlorothiazide and Irbesartan. These active ingredients are characterized by different mechanism of action. Therefore, the combined effect produced by the action of Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide is stronger than each of the antihypertensive agents provides alone.

 

Avalide tablets are used to lower high blood pressure in patients with mild, moderate, or severe hypertension.

 

  • Avalide is indicated to patients who fail to control blood pressure with one antihypertensive agent.
  • Avalide can be indicated for the first-line antihypertensive therapy only to patients with serious essential hypertension.

 

Missed dose

 

If you miss one dose of Avalide, do not worry, and take the antihypertensive drug as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose of Avalide, skip the missed dose, and return to your regular dosing regimen.

 

More Information

 

Adequate control of blood pressure is achieved in 2-4 weeks after the start of Avalide application. Correction of daily Avalide doses is recommended only after a stable antihypertensive effect.

 

Avalide tablets provide vasodilatory and diuretic effects, and may enhance effects of other drugs to treat high blood pressure. If Avalide is used in combination with other antihypertensive agents, blood pressure should be regularly monitored.

 

Storage

 

Diuretic Avalide should be stored in a dry place at temperature of 25°C, out of children’s reach.

Warnings

 

Avalide tablets are not reported to be safe for an unborn baby, so it is considered to threaten seriously to the baby’s wellbeing. So, if pregnancy is suspected during Avalide application, a woman is recommended immediately to stop antihypertensive therapy and contact her healthcare provider. Avalide used with diuretics may cause hypotension. A couple of days before using Avalide tablets, the intensive diuretic therapy is advised to be stopped to reduce the risk of hypotension.

Avalide Side Effects

 

The risk of unwanted effects does not depend on the antihypertensive therapy duration and the daily Avalide dose. Mostly, the application of Avalide pills may cause headache. This unwanted effect is reported to be observed in about 11% of patients on fixed doses of Avalide.


In rare cases, Avalide may cause musculoskeletal pain, dizziness, gastrointestinal disorders, fatigue, muscle spasms, frequent urination. Some depleted patients taking Avalide may experience hypotension. Serious unwanted effects, which require to stop Avalide intake, are reported to be observed in less than 1% of patients using this drug for short-or long-term antihypertensive therapy.
