Lopid Product Description

Drug Uses

Lipid is a hypoglycemic drug that reduces the level of very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and increases the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Antihyperlipidemic drug Lopid is indicated for treatment of mixed hyperlipidemia and severe hypertriglyceridemia (type IV and V) in patients at high risk of pancreatitis or in patients with diabetic dyslipidemia. In addition, Lopid helps reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in patients with hypercholesterolaemia.

Typically, to treat hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolaemia, 900 to 1200mg of Lopid is indicated to the patients per day. The daily dose of Lopid is divided into two doses taken in the morning 30 minutes before breakfast and before dinner in the evening. The maximum recommended dose of Lopid is 1500mg per day.

Missed Dose

If you missed a dose of Lopid, you may take it immediately when you remembered about it. The doses of this antihyperlipidemic agent must be divided, so you need to skip the missed dose of Lopid, if it is close to the next dose time.

More Information

The patients are advised to use antihyperlipidemic agent Lopid, when the non-pharmacological antihyperlipidemic therapy is inefficient. For the treatment of elderly patients (65 years and older), the same dose of Lopid should be indicated as for adults.

Storage

Lopid Tablets should be stored at temperature no higher than 25°C, out of reach of children, and this antihyperlipidemic agent should be protected from the humidity, light and heat.

Lopid Safety Information

Warnings

Lopid should be taken with caution when indicated to the patients with muscle tenderness, diffuse myalgia, because the antihyperlipidemic agent may cause myositis and myopathy. If you have pain in the muscles, the application of Lopid should be stopped.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that Lopid may increase cholesterol excretion into the bile, that can lead to gallstones formation. If cholelithiasis is suspected, the gallbladder function and state are recommended to be tested. In case of confirmation of the diagnosis, the use of Lopid should be discontinued.

If the systematic 3 month application of Lopid failed to significantly reduce the level of triglycerides and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the use of antihyperlipidemic agent Lopid should be stopped and alternative treatments are to be considered.
